Biodiversity fact check published

The Biodiversity Fact Check is the first comprehensive report on the state of biodiversity in Germany and shows that more than half of the natural habitat types in Germany are in an ecologically unfavourable condition. This is leading to a decline in species - with a direct impact on the functioning and performance of ecosystems. The fact check identifies trends and drivers of species loss, but also makes recommendations to counteract the loss and identifies research needs.

Benjamin Burkhard (PhyGeo) and Bastian Steinhoff-Knopp (lecturer at PhyGeo) are co-authors of the fact check chapter ‘Soil biodiversity’ and have presented the manifold connections between soil biodiversity and the provision of soil-related ecosystem services.
