In the TV show "Bares für Rares", curiosities are regularly auctioned off to real dealers. In the programme of 21.09.2023, our PhyGeo technician Heiko van Wensen and his wife successfully auctioned off a historical hypsometer from the stock of our Institute. The well-preserved device from 1929, consisting of a thermometer, burner, cooking vessel, water and fuel tanks as well as a conversion table, is used to measure altitude using different boiling points at different altitudes. Assembly and use were expertly demonstrated by Heiko van Wensen. The profit made will be donated to the Institute.
