The MOVE-ON EU Project held a participatory expert workshop in Saint-Denis, La Réunion, on February 2nd, 2023.
Land use planners, decision-makers, NGOs and economic sector representatives of La Réunion joined the stakeholder workshop hosted by Cathleen Cybèle and her team from Nexa (Agence Régionale de Développement, d'Investissement et d'Innovation (ARDII)) at the Dina Morgabine Conference Rooms. Aim of this workshop was the identification of the different benefits obtained from ecosystems across the island including agricultural and urban areas. Ina Sieber from the PhyGeo supported NEXA with the methodology and suitable approaches. This work was part of Nexa’s (ARDII)’s theme week on biodiversity and ecosystem services from 27.01.2022 to 02.03.2023, that included a local ecosystem services assessment in the community of Saint-Philippe and a seminar session at the CIRAD Agro-campus in Saint-Pierre with. Francesco Sica from the University of Trento.
The work funded under the EU MOVE-ON project focuses on ecosystem services and their uptake in policy and decision making on La Réunion. The project tests and applies the ecosystem services framework as part of the EU Biodiversity Strategies 2020 and 2030 specifically in the EU Overseas Countries and Territories and Outermost Regions of the European Union. This work is taken up in future research projects, for example in the framework of the Horizon Europe EU project SELINA , which is coordinated the PhyGeo.
