The 4th European Conference of the Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) took place in Heraklion on the Greek island of Crete from 10 - 14 October 2022.
The conference, held in a hybrid format under the theme "Ecosystem services empowering people and societies in times of crises", was attended by a total of over 450 delegates (of which about 1/3 were online) from all over Europe. From PhyGeo, Joana Seguin, Sabine Lange, Claudia Dworczyk, Thea Wübbelmann, Ina Sieber (online), Luke Brander, Malte Hinsch and Benjamin Burkhard actively participated with various thematic presentations, posters and session chairing. The conference provided an excellent format to present the work being done at the Institute on the topic of ecosystem services to an international audience of experts. The return journey to Hanover turned out to be difficult for some of the participants due to the serious storm in Crete on 15.10.2022 and dramatically illustrated the "time of crises" dealt with at the conference.
