PhyGeo at the signing ceremony between LUH and LBEG

Dr. Jan Bug is giving one of the four presentations at the event.

On Tuesday, a cooperation agreement was signed between Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) and the Lower Saxony State Authority for Mining, Energy and Geology (LBEG).

The words of welcome from the President of LUH, Prof. Dr. Volker Epping, and the President of the LBEG, Mdgt Mr. Carsten Mühlenmeier, both emphasised the need for a close cooperation. In particular, Mr. Mühlenmeier pointed out that, unlike air and water, the role of soil is still underestimated in the public’s perception, although as a non-renewable resource it is lost every day through sealing and erosion.
During the signing ceremony, the long term project between LBEG and the section of Physical Geography and Landscape Ecology that has been and still is monitoring soil erosion for more than 25 years was highlighted.

In addition to presentations by Prof. Dr. Georg Guggenberger, Dr. Jens Boy and Eva Gonzáles, Dr. Jan Bug (lecturer at PhyGeo), in collaboration with Simone Ott (PhyGeo), presented a master thesis on soil erosion modelling with BOWAB and Erosion 3D, which originated from this joint project.
